by buggy?

Hi, I'm "shicchan" and this is my first post. Nice to meet you all! I'm a teacher at a Japanese high school. I have been struggling everyday..

Well, I made a test and checked how the students have done today. I asked:

"How did she go back home?" and one of them answered:

"She went back home by buggy."

Is this correct like we say "by train, car or bus etc"?

Thank you.

In most cases, I would think going home 'by buggy' would be an ususual mode of transportation. Since there are different types-- dune buggy, horse and buggy, racing buggy, desert buggy, baby buggy, bicycle buggy, moon buggy -- 'in a buggy', 'on a buggy', 'with a buggy', 'by buggy' all seem like possibilities.
