Buzz in

Hi

I buzzed them in, turned to say good-bye, and saw that both the doctor and his secretary had such looks of horror on their faces, they had both turned white.

--- What does "I buzzed them in" mean?

It refers to sounding a buzzer (an electrical device a bit like a bell but less melodious) to indicate to someone that they can now enter a room or building (or possibly to alert someone in a room or building that a visitor is entering).
