Hello. I was reading the book Dear Genius by Leonard S. Marcus when I encountered this sentence.

"Plans for the poster are being worked out now, but doubtless Miss Raymond will write you herself as soon as she is back at her desk."

I'm most probably wrong, but I think the word that should be used in this sentence is and. This has been bugging me for a while now. Please do explain.
