But, while, whereas

I have tried to find out why 'but, while, and whereas', although explained in different grammar books as having similar meaning, they cannot be all correct in some sentences. I couldn't find the answer. Please, could you elaborate on this, taking the provided example as a model?

'Supermarket fruit may be cheap..........it isn't always as tasty as fruit from a shop.'

Which word is correct in this example? I'm sure 'but' is correct, but un certain about the other two.
