"But what really happened? "

Is it correct to say: "But what really happened?" ?

I came it across in a book description on goodreads.com. so it can't be wrong. But I'd say: "But what HAS really happened?"

Thank you!

It's just the usual difference between present perfect and past. " could be asking about a historical event.

It's just the usual difference between present perfect and past. "What has really happened?" emphasises recency and present effect, whereas "What really happened?" could be asking about a historical event.
