But not only

In the sentence, "On the other hand, the receptor ion channels have not only the binding ability for agonists but also the gating function for ion permeation", kindly tell me whether this could be changed as "On the other hand, the receptor ion channels have not only the binding ability for agonists but also 'have the' the gating function for ion permeation".

Kindly advise

Thanks and regards

If you wish to write it the second way, you should move the 'not only':

'...the receptor ion channels not only have the binding ability for agonists but also have the gating function...'

The first way is more efficient:

'...have not only the binding ability for agonists but also the gating
