"but good" vs "anything but good"

Are these 2 phrases having same meaning or opposite in meaning?
"It is but good." and "It is anything but good."

It is but good makes no sense. It is anything but good means that it is no good at all.

"It is but good" doesn't mean anything to me.
"It is anything but good" means that it is definitely not good. It is anything else; anything other than good.
