But

Hi,

Is the following use of 'but' correct?
'My brother is talented in many different ways. He is a mathematical genius but also has great musical ability.'

I read this in a school textbook and I don't think it is correct.

Thanks for your help.

nsfs2 I read this in a school textbook and I don't think it is correct. 'But' and 'and' are both OK. It depends on the speaker's mindset about the relationship between the two skills: are they complementary or in some way unexpected together?
