Businesses responsibilities

Please help me to check my essay for IELTS writing task 2, teachers.

As well as making money, businesses also have social responsibilities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is commonly argued that besides pursuing profit, companies should take responsibilities for our society. From my point of view, I definitely agree that businesses have to act for social obligations while making money.

On the one hand, maximizing profit and minimizing the cost are primary goals of businesses in the competitive market. Due to the cost reduction, it does not mean that businesses have to pinch their salaries to achieve their objectives. Thus, the first social practice of businesses is to treat their employees well. For example, companies should pay a living wage to ensure their workers meet their basic demands. In addition, the more money companies make, the more tax revenues they pay to the government. So this fund enables authorities to invest a great deal of money for the fundamental services such as schools, hospitals, roads and the other vital infrastructure to enhance the residents’ quality of life.

On the other hand, businesses cannot operate for the sake of their profit without considering the future survival of all communities. Therefore, companies aiming for sustainable development have to pay more attention to the natural environment. For instance, businesses may apply environmentally-friendly technologies such as using green energy, or innovative waste treatment facilities to help significantly protect our planet. Moreover, when companies are in good financial health, they can contribute to education by making charities, sponsoring financial scholarships to facilitate young and talented people to develop their skills.

In conclusion, besides the goal of maximizing profit, businesses also take responsibilities for the country, community, and environment like their own mission.
