Letter Writing

Business writing: My name is.. or This is..

I was recently asked which of these two should be used to start a business email: "My name is.." or "This is..."

I wasn't sure myself and couldn't answer the question, so I wanted to ask the people on this board could inform me which one is the proper one to use.

Thank you.

Hi, Neither way. The standard business approach is to put your name (and sign, if it's not an email) at the bottom of the communication. In other words, when I receive a business email or a letter I look at the bottom to see who it is from.

  • That may sound strange to you, but that's the convention.

You should make good signature including your name, phone number, workplace, job position.
