Business Invitation Letter writing

I was just told by a co-worker that it is not correct to begin a business invitation letter with "My name is XXX and I am writing on behalf...".

I was told that the correct way is to use "This is XXX and I am writing on behalf...."

Can someone let me know which is the proper and more professional way of starting this sentence?

Thanks!

However, you shouldn't use 'I am' either. Start with 'I am writing on behalf of...'. The signature at the bottom of the letter is adequate notification of the author's identity.
