Business emails: salutation?

I am still not sure what salutation to use in a business email if I don't know the name of the individual. I also think it might be different in the UK and in the US.

I think in the UK it should be:

Dear Sir or Madam:

***

I don't think this would be appropriate for a business emails going to a US company? ... but I am not sure?

Thanks for help.Emotion: smile

Hi Guest, Your solution works. Some people just write, "Dear Sir:". Others use "To whom it may concern:" My preference is to send an advance e-mail or letter or phone call to find out who is going to read the "actual" e-mail.
