Burned out

I've heard the phrase 'burned out' in reference to overwork.

But could it applied to sport?

For instance, would it make sense the say the following?

"After playing foobal for 90 minutes, he was burned out."

No. "burned out" is more the mental and physical tiredness one gets after a period of months or years of unrelenting and stressful work. After some hard exercise, we use "exhausted."
