Burden

"The burden of proof usually falls on/to the accuser."
"The benefit of the doubt usual falls on/to the defendant."

Should it be "on" or "to"?

Top answer

" I always hear 'on'. " I would choose 'to' in this sentence, but it's not a sentence I would be likely to say. More common is eg 'The defendant usually gets the benefit of the doubt'.
