Hi
Does this sentence sound natural to you?
The children wanted to sit in the bumper cars at the amusement park.
And this:
The children wanted to sit on the merry-go-round at the amusement park.
Thanks,
Tom
Yes and yes.

Neither sentence seems natural to me as an American. The verb is "ride", not "sit in/on".
The children wanted to ride the [bumper cars / merry-go-round] at the amusement park.
All of these amusements that involve motion are called "rides".
Which rides did you go on when you went to the [amusement park / carnival / state fair] last weekend?
