Is there a correct English format for bullet or number lists? I prepare technical documents and manuals with many bullet lists. I use bullets when no sequence is required. I use numbering when a sequence is needed.
After bullets should punctuation follow with nothing, comma, or semicolon?
The example below shows the many different standards that I come across. I would like to know if there is an accepted standard.
EXAMPLE: The *** system contains the following parts: - Tank A [no punctuation] - Manual valve type 1; [semicolon] - Automatic valve 2A, [comma] - Drain line X, and [if punctuation is necessary should ‘and’ be used here?] - High pressure vessel SS. [period, particularly for the last bullet item]
I tried a search on this site but I was unable to find information on this issue.
Your feedback is appreciated!
