Bullet List Punctuations

I often have to edit a weekly supplement riddled with bullet lists.

Are there some quick tips for end of sentence punctuation and capitalization for such lists? They do often vary in the form of what is being listed. Sometimes it is a list of personality traits, usually one word, or longer sentences about personality types better suited to certain jobs. I've found a lot of information online, but would appreciate a boiled-down version. I don't want to abandon all end punctuation and capitalization, as while it would be consistent, it might not be accurate to the type of list.

- If you have found a lot of information online, then you know that there are no hard rules. The use of bullets preempts any possibility that a real overall sentence or paragraph is being constructed. What you need to go for is a neat, clear layout.

  • - The only final punctuation that is called for is a period at the end of each if they are complete sentences or more; otherwise, nothing.
  • The old semicolon is nothing but cluttered, a leftover from that mythical sentence.
