Built-in closets VS. Closets.

Built-in closets VS. Closets.

I think that closets are already built in the walls so we do not need to add built-in to closets. Or built-in closets and closets are different things? What do you think? Thank you so much as always in advance.

My image is that closets are constructed as separate little rooms (with doorsills, molding, etc) and that built-in closets are sort of a hole cut in the wall or behind a false wall laid in, with cabinet doors added. I may be completely wrong, though.

I think there are people who can say "closet" when they mean a free-standing wardrobe or chifforobe. The "built-in" contributes to clarity.
