Some people think that large, impressive buildings are important for a city. Others believe that the money should be spent on improving schools and hospitals.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

My writing:

Large and impressive buildings are important for a city and are tourist attractions. Governments like to spend money on them well. However, people also need hospitals and schools as well. Although they are less noticeable, this does not mean they are less important. I think governments should spend money on both types of buildings.

When you visit any country, the large buildings with unique architecture will attract you. For example, Petronas twin towers in Malaysia or Burj Khalifa in Dubai is the famous building and becomes those countries' symbol. The buildings are used for many purposes such as: museums, arts centers or trade centers. This makes them well-known and brings many benefits to local citizens. I believe that governments have to spend money on city buildings if they want their country to be known around the world.

Besides, governments must make sure that their people are looked after. If there are not enough schools or the school buildings are old, children can not be educated properly. Similarly, every society needs well-built hospitals and medical facilities. Where I live, we have some large, modern hospitals but we also have a lot of elderly people who need care. Our government is planning to build a special center for them and this will cost a lot of money.

In conclusion, I think that governments should spend some of their money on city buildings since they need to look after the global status of their countries. Moreover, they should also ensure that they have enough modern school and hospital buildings for their people.
