BUCKWHEAT and OUR GANG

Hello,
Is someone so kind to explain me the meaning of these expressions?:

'I didn't like the name BUCKWHEAT because I didn't like what the name meant, what it represented, that stupid OUR GANG bullshit image white people had about black people.'

Thanks, Jo.

Buckwheat is not a pejorative word, but it was the name of a black character in the Our Gang movie series many years ago. At that time, black people, including that character, were heavily and negatively stereotyped. A black person today would not like that image.
