People of the Commonwealth often have High Tea (about 4 pm, I believe). I even had high tea in a place in a little Welsh community in Argentina. Not necessarily the fancy-hat-and-white-gloves affair: there were many common laborers as well.

Hi,

In my experience, 'high tea' is usually just referred to as 'tea'.

Hi,

I wouldn't define 'brunch' as a meal between breakfast and lunch. It's instead of them, a combination of them.

Tea is actually a meal, eh? I didn't know that. I always thought it was just like a coffee break.

I was always told it should be translated into American as "supper", just as "pudding" should be translated as "dessert", "peckish" as "hungry", and so on and so forth. Still, it seems strange to my ear to hear, "I'm really peckish tonight, so I hope there will be a lot of good puddings after tea."

I'm sure that the Empress Hotel in Victoria, BC refers to it as 'high tea'. Maybe so they can charge more?
