I took my kid to work because my mom was sick.

Are they OK? any difference?

They are sometimes interchanged, but here are a couple of comments.

I brought my kid to work because my mom was sick. Suggests the speaker is at work when he says this.

I took my kid to work because my mom was sick. Suggests the speaker is not at work when he says this.
