Brought, bear on

Hi, Brought here seems to me "to dedicate" ?

I found this for "bear on" to be relevant to; relate to

so trying to rewrite it I get- Alexander Campbell, dedicated years of thought so those years are relevant to his interpretation of the Bible ? Not sure if it is correct for bear on first time I see this word ...

"Alexander Campbell, brought years of thought to bear on his interpretation of the Bible."
