Broke up

My friend tells me that her bf broke up and cheated on her with another guy.

I say to her:

I can't imagine anybody doing that to you. You're perfect. Or

I couldn't imagine anybody doing that to you. You're perfect.

Does couldn't make the statement seem more impossible?

Thanks.

PreciousJones Does couldn't make the statement seem sound more impossible? Hi. If by more impossible you mean more impossible that someone cheat on her, then I believe yes.

  • Hi.
  • If by more impossible you mean more impossible that someone cheat on her, then I believe yes.
  • Here, and as it's already happened and somebody's already cheated on her, I think couldn't fits in better than can't .
  • I'm not sure though.
