Broke down/got repaired.......

Hi teachers,

1. My car broke down/got repaired on my way so I am late. Can we use broke down and got repaired both? Are they interchangeable? what is the difference between broke down and got repaired?

Thank you.

Breaking down is what happened to your car. For instance, you have a flat tire, but got repaired means you have fixed what wasn't working properly. So if you want to make an excuse, I think it is better to use "break down".

Hi,

What made you think these two verbs could be used in the same context without harming the

intended meaning?

Break down -- stop working properly.

Repair -- restore something that's damaged or broken to good condition.

The two verbs are utterly different; they cannot be used interchangeably at all.

Yes, thank you so much for clearing my doubts.

1. I had my car repaired. Does it mean my car was getting repaired in a mechanic shop? and I had my car repaired and my car was getting repaired. Are they both mean same?

Thank you so much.
