Broaden one’s scope

Hi,

If I want to use different materials and resources when studying for a resit exam, can I say one of these?

“I just need to broaden my scope for studying.” This doesn’t sound quite right, but perhaps it’d work with a few small changes.

“I just need to broaden my scope outside the materials I’ve already used.”

Thank you.
