Just to be technical, the Crown Jewels belong to the Crown, not to the Royal Family. The Crown Jewels are part of the national heritage and held by The Queen as Sovereign.

It's an interesting point. This is an excerpt from a story in the Guardian, 2002.

( By the way, the original poster also mentioned the Jewel House. This is part of the better-known 'Tower of London'. )
