Hello everyone. Is it correct if we fill the blank in the following with the word "English" or we have to fill that with the word "British".

I'll never understand this. What were these entities which were "united" if not countries? I'm stumped.

England, Wales and Scotland may not be independent sovereign states, but they are countries. Don't try telling a person from one of these countries that they are not.

Either word would be fine. England is one of multiple parts of the UK, so, people and things from there are English and British.

I suggest that the test maker wants 'English', not 'British', whatever the sovereignties may be.

He is from Spain; he is Spanish.
He is from the Netherlands; he is Dutch.
etc.
