Bring good / bad luck

Good morning.

Is the expression 'to bring good / bad luck' acceptable in English? E.g.: Opening the umbrella in my bedroom brought me bad luck.

It should be used to mean that something can have positive or negative effects on what will happen to you.

Thank you.
