What is the object of 'brighten' here? 'Life'?

No doubt the speaker has any room in his mind as the object of brighten. From a strictly grammatical point of view, any room cannot be the object of brighten as the preposition to precedes it. We cannot say: It will brighten to any room; we have to say: It will brighten any room.
