Breaths or breath

Hi

Could you please tell me if I should use breath or breaths in this sentence?

With gasping breath, he told me the whole incident.

Thanks,

Tom

Use breath. You are talking about his breathing ability as a whole during this period. "Breaths" is not wrong, but it would refer to his actual individual breaths.
