Break up

Hi.
As break up is mainly used between the opposite sex having boyfriend-girlfriend relationship, I wonder what it is used for platonic friendship between opposite or same sex friendships.
I can think of falling out for that, I wonder if there are other alternatives as well.

Ex. I fell out with my best friend yesterday.

Thank you
Hamid

Hi Hamid,
How about this? "go your separate ways"
I found this example on thefreedictionary.com: "We were good friends in college, but after graduation we went our separate ways."

Yes, both 'have a falling out' and 'go separate ways' sound natural to me. You can also 'drift apart' when it is gradual.

Break with can be used. It means quarrel/cease relations with someone.

John had broken with me long ago.
