Break on/in a car

Hi,
I've got another question. What is the correct way to say: "I repaired the breaks on my car" or "I repaired the breaks in my car?"

Thank you

Top answer

I think. I changed the breaks in my car. I got my car breaks changed.

  • I think.
  • I changed the breaks in my car.
  • I got my car breaks changed.
  • It means that a mechanic/someone changed for you.

brakes not breaks.

I repaired the brakes on my car.

Athough in reality, we'd say: I repaired my car's brakes.

Great. Thank you all. What about installing a radio: on or in the car?

It depends where the object goes. If it is inside the car (radio, brakes, engine bits and bobs) then it is 'in' the car.

If it is an external object (radio ariel, alloy wheel trims, tyres) it is 'on' the car.

Thanks, Nona. It goes inside, so it is "in the car".
