break off / up

If you are speaking to someone and the line is bad and you are "loosing" the do you say you "are breaking up" or "breaking off" the dictionary says break up "disrupt the continuity or flow" but I am confused

I believe the term most used is "breaking up", but I have heard "losing" also, as in "I'm losing you."

If the line is clear, then silent, then static, then clear again, in rapid succession, say: You are breaking up.
It happens when someone is calling from a train, and the train goes through tunnels or under bridges where there is no reception.
