Just wondering:
Why are 'versions' better than 'examples'?

It is not the question of 'better' here. The word 'example' doesn't go with what you had intended to ask. I suppose you wanted to ask 'What are the other ways of writing this sentence'. So I chose 'versions'.

Both these words have different meanings.

I would have said

I have an HP laptop.

Of course CJ. But I thought the person wanted that 'brand' word in the sentence as the title itself was 'brand'.

Yes. I considered that, but on the other hand, I thought, it wouldn't hurt to show that the word "brand" is not absolutely necessary when trying to get that point across, given that you had already cited a good example with "brand"!
