Brackets Use

Hello, I was just wondering if it's okay to use brackets in these two instances?

His name was Michael, and this too brought me comfort, as my house was called “St Michael’s” after the saint who triumphed over the powers’ of hell, and I often wondered if such a man could defeat the German army.

I also found a sense of puerile joy in imagining what it would be like to have the children call me “Miss Stirling”.

Um, those are quotation marks, not brackets...

Yes, their use is OK.
