Brackets optional or not?

Could you please tell me how to naturally say these sentences and if the brackets are optional?

- What place did you finish (in)/get? I finished the race in 3rd place.

- He will be able to beat me up when he gets older/bigger (than I.)

- There are so many nicer people here (than there).

- I'm not going to tell him I'm there when I'm not (here).

Thank you
