No. I'm sorry, but all of those are wrong.

Let me point out the main problems:
— You cannot start questions with "whether".
— The indirect questions are in the past, but the direct questions must be in the present (they are asked at that moment).
— The question form is generally "[Question-word (optional)] [verb] [subject] [...]".
— The correct use of punctuation requires placing the question between quotation marks, and either following it with a comma and the indication of who asked it or indicating that before the question.

That said, this would be the correct resolution of your exercise:

The students asked whether there was any need for more homework.

Notice the other underlined words in the third sentence:
We in direct question = They in indirect question
This year in direct question = That year in indirect question

Now look at the italicised words (the question-words and the word whether). Notice how the question-words (what, why, how much) remain in the direct questions, but the word whether doesn't. This is because it is not a question-word. It is only used in the indirect question it introduce the question that was asked, when that question has no question-word of its own.
In other words, the word whether is not a question-word, and thus cannot be at the beginning of a direct question.
Notice that the word whether can be replaced by if without sounding strange or changing the meaning, but this is not possible with the question-words.

Oh! And, of course, don't confuse whether with weather!

Finally, take a look at the correct way to use punctuation in direct questions.

Only the sentences beginning with "why" and "how" are incorrect.  Sentences can begin with "whether" or "what" as long as these begin subordinated phrases.
