Thank you kindly. Because the following is not a direct quote, have I punctuated it correctly per British style? British style can sometimes get very confusing. I appreciate your patience with me on this. Please place 'yes' or 'no' next to each if the sentence is punctuated correctly. If it's not, please show me how you'd do it.
1. They described the forum as 'a stimulating event', but decided that in the future 'they would return only on certain conditions'. (Does the period fall outside of the ending single quote because it's not a direct quote?)
2. Thomas Edison declared that genius was 'one per cent inspiration and ninety-nine per cent perspiration'. (Comma outside the ending quote because it's technically not a direct quote, correct?)
3. According to Thomas Edison, 'Genius is one per cent inspiration and ninety-nine per cent perspiration.' (Comma inside the ending quote because this is a direct quote, correct?)
4. The questions 'Why did he do it?', 'How did he do it?' and 'When did he do it? remain unanswered. (I'm told this is correct, technically.)
