Boyfriend

Hello my friends,

is it ok for a man to say, "I'm going to the party with my boyfriend"? referring to a male friend or buddy?

would it sound like the person is gay or attracted to men?

Thanks in advance

I think so, yes. "Buddy" is a better choice. Women can talk about going out for a drink with a girlfriend without any connotation of homosexuality, but not so for men.

Don't use 'boyfriend' referring to a male friend, the implication is pretty obvious (homosexuality'

As for 'buddy', it means "comrade or chum" and is often used as a term of address. Pretty neutral, I'd say.

Hi,

To me, 'buddy' is somewhat of an Americanism. Here in Canada, I most often hear '. . . with my friend'.

I never heard "buddy" very often until we moved to Alabama, where it is in constant use.

What's the BE equivalent? "Mate"?

And what if mans says, "I'm going to the party with my girlfriends"?

would it sound like he's a player?

Hi,

Yes.

If a woman says 'my girlfriend', she means a female friend.

If a man says 'my girlfriend', it means romance and/or ***.

It simply means that this man has more than one affair at the moment and what is more, these two girls know each other. Most men would consider you as very lucky guy. Though I think you are creating a big problem to yourself.

I suppose in Canada people tends to say pals instead, in US guys, in Australia mates. Isn't it?
