Bowling for ...

I've always wondered what the title to the documentary "Bowling for Columbine" stood for. I mean, I looked up that bowling may refer to the killers going bowling early in the morning before the school massacre. But what confuses me is the "for Columbine" bit. Does that mean bowling representing/ on behalf of the school Columbine?
