Grammar

both/neither/either

1. I had two eggs for breakfast and both of them was fresh.

2. I had two eggs for breakfast and neither of them was fresh.

3. I had two eggs for breakfast and either of them was fresh.

Correct is sentence 2.

But I think that sentences 1. and 3. are also correct grammatically. Why are they incorrect? They don´t make sence? As for me

I would vote for sentence 1. as I wouldn´t suppose that he/she really had for breakfast two stale eggs.

Thanks a lot.
