Both sides VS Both parties

While I am reading an article about hiring people, I found the following sentence :
Phone interviews save time for both parties, which make them ideal for career fairs.

Why did he use "both parties" instead of "both sides"? My analysis is parties for human beings and sides for anything else?

Both side OR both sides.
