Both formal and informal education(s)

If

Formal education is important.

and

Informal education is important.

Is either of the below grammatically correct?

(a) Both formal and informal education is important.

(b) Both formal and informal educations are important.

Or is there any other way to express this idea using ‘both?’

I’m confused because ‘both’ is used with something plural, but education is (I think) an uncountable noun.
