Try to use it once in each body if appropriate.

Try to use it once in each body as appropriate.

Are the above two sentences correct? If so, what's the difference?

My teacher gave some comments at the end of my writing:

"if appropriate" and "as appropriate" are close in meaning. To me, "if appropriate" seems to describe a binary choice (you either do something or you don't), whereas "as appropriate" may suggest that something can be done to a certain degree, or in a certain quantity, and the appropriate degree or quantity is chosen to fit the circumstances.
