Both A, as well as B


According to the passage above, 'both' is used with 'as well as'.

We are familiar with 'both A and B', but the passage doesn't have the structure.

I'd like to know why 'both' has been used in that structure.

There is no particular reason for the "both ..., as well as ..." structure. It's just the way that the author has chosen to write it. To me it doesn't seem quite correct.
