Borrow & loan

Hi

I know we say 'borrow books from the library' but would you say 'loan books from the library'? The local library tends to use the word 'loan' so I got interested in this.

Thank you

They are two words that relate to opposite sides of the 'transaction'. The library loans/lends. The readers borrow.

Ah, so 'loan' works the same way as 'lend' does. Thanks for your reply, Grammer Geek.
