Border on

Hi

Is this sentence (a dialogue) natural?

(Principal to a lecturer of the college)

I've warned you before not to border on religion in your lectures. One day you'll find yourself on the defensive. It's such a delicate topic in this sensitive area.

(--the city situation is not good with regard to religious affairs...)

Thanks,

Tom

border on here means come close to being.
eg This suggestion borders on madness.
eg His attitude borders on rebellion.

A person can't border on religion.

You could say eg I've warned you before to stay well away from / to steer clear of religion in your lectures. One day you'll find yourself in hot water.. It's such a delicate top

If you want "border on" in your sentence, this would be better:

I've warned you before not to lecture on topics that border on religion.
