Boot up/ place on

Can you please explain here - boot up?
and also what is "place on"?

headphones plugged into the audio port that's on the right side of the headset. Students will boot up the headset and place the headset and the headphones on. Students will use the controller to navigate to the Sky box app in the skybox app.
