Books for finding right words

Are there any books which would help me find the right word I am searching for? suppose I am looking for the right word for a political figure who is cunning and deceiving, and when I cannot think of words like Machiavellian, I would like to use a book or software that would help me find the right word. Are there any such books? I have Longman essential activator but they are of no use. I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me with some suggestions.
Many thanks

I think you need a thesaurus. Here's one: http://www.thesaurus.com

You can also buy brick-and-mortar ones:

Thanks for your reply Micawber. My question was not about thesaurus, for instance if you type this someone is who is cunning and deceiving, thesaurus simply refuses to respond! I am looking for something which would actually give me few choices…

No, no such work exists. You must choose a word that you know and let the thesaurus offer synonyms.

I had to give it the hint that the word begins with the letter "m"

Onelook is OK at times. But not always. Looks like there aren't any. I hope someone would come up with a solution though ( books or software).
